In a timeless Paris, France, a quest for the truth sparks an adventure for Pierre, an eleven year old boy who lives with his grand papi and grand mama, Henri and Marielle Allard. Pierre is a quiet, unsure boy, lacking in any confidence in himself and without any knowledge of his place in the small world around him. Never knowing the real reason behind the absence of his parents, he lives his life without asking too many questions for fear of the answers. But little does he know that his world is about to be tipped upside down and shaken to its very core. Starting with a fire at the world famous Notre Dame cathedral and strange telephone call from a man with an English accent, a set of great challenges are coming. Will Pierre be able to find his voice, and his place in a world that is about to change forever.
With the flames now under control but with Paris in shock at the news, Pierre discovers a mysterious creature on the way to school. It is hiding from the sunlight and appears to be hurt. With the help of his grand papi, Pierre manages to get it to safety so that it can heal itself. Seeking the advice of his upstairs neighbour mademoiselle Hambage, a lecturer on cryptozoology at the university, Pierre and Henri learn they have discovered the last of an ancient species and that they are not the only ones who know of its existence. The boy and the creature which makes no sound quickly form a bond which the others cannot explain, and this helps Pierre find his own voice as he begins to ask the questions which have long been silenced. In a daring plan, Pierre decides to try and put right some of the wrongs that have been done to him and his family and begins to face up to Ella Suchard, a wealthy Paris socialite who appears to be very connected to both Pierres past, and his future.
With the truth finally told and Ella Suchard and her henchmen, Nogger & Biscuit, now biting at Pierre’s heels, he must protect his family, his home and the creature he has bonded with. Set across multiple Parisian landmarks, the entire Allard family now face the ultimate test of strength and unity as they come under attack on various fronts. With his grand parents in danger, his bonded creature seemingly lost forever, and himself alone and frightened in a ghostly Paris cemetery, can Pierre finally find the answers he has been denied all these years and save the Allards and the last gargoyle of Paris?
